For a significant portion of our female population, encountering a gynaecological issue during their reproductive lifetime and beyond is likely. Medical issues may become apparent from puberty through to the twilight years, though are more commonly faced during a woman’s childbearing years. These concerns are no different for women living in rural and regional areas. The tyranny of distance places extra challenges on the diagnosis and management of infertility, pelvic and ovarian disease, pregnancy loss, postpartum complications, pelvic organ prolapse and menopausal issues. Join our Gynaecology discussion to learn from panel members how these situations and diagnoses can be managed in the rural setting.

In Australia, 10% of people visiting a General Practitioner have Chronic Kidney Disease, yet most are unaware. According to latest reports from Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and Kidney Health Australia, this is a common reality for people living in rural and remote populations and more so for older Indigenous Australians, where incidence rates of treated End Stage Kidney Disease is significantly higher than city counterparts.

So what can we do to ensure early diagnosis and prevent late referral? Join our panel discussion to learn more from Nephrology experts on this important issue.

The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School invites medical students to the first of four events in the Rural Ready Series for 2020, “Learning in Rural”.

This event is best targeted and suited to years 1 and 2 medical students, and year 3 medical students who are not currently undertaking a year 3 year-long placement at a UQ Rural Clinical School.

Hear from UQRCS staff, current UQRCS students as well as representatives from TROHPIQ about what is on offer.  All will share the benefits and opportunities of ‘going rural’, including a rich clinical exposure, their own career experiences and the reasons why they ‘went rural’.
