Former high school teacher Jo Bourke is a medical student based at The University of Queensland Regional Clinical Unit Rockhampton, graduating on Friday with a Doctor of Medicine.

When you look at the exhaustive list of placements, opportunities, awards and projects taken on by Jack Kelso-Ribbe in the last four years, it would come as no surprise that he will add medical graduate to his books this Friday.

Last Friday, The University of Queensland celebrated the graduating Doctor of Medicine (MD) students, who stood tall in their graduation caps and gowns, ready to embark on their next journey as junior doctors. Among them were Jess Traves and Caitlin Judge, proud students of the Toowoomba Regional Clinical Unit Class of 2023, who took a moment to reflect on their transformative experiences studying in regional Queensland.

Students based at The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School (UQRCS), Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Regional Clinical Units have swapped their scrubs and textbooks for graduation caps and gowns, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (MD).

Research conducted by our Research Group and Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine has shown that medical students who completed a 12-week training program in a rural or remote area were more likely to work as doctors in similar communities.
