One hundred future doctors will be training in the Darling Downs and South West regions within three years - set to ramp up to 120 each year by 2026 - in a partnership between universities and health services.

Associate Professor Dr Riitta Partanen has been officially appointed as Head of The University of Queensland’s Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) after a competitive recruitment process.

This month, The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) Toowoomba Director, Dr George Tucker will hand his stethoscope reins to Dr Andrew “Doogie” Whitcombe after serving in the role for more than 11 years.

Five years ago, David Lui had finished his Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) and was accepted to study medicine with The University of Queensland.

This week, he is one of the 35, Year 4 students based at UQ Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) Toowoomba, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (MD).

Amy is studying UQ’s four year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and currently getting her first real exposure to the practice of medicine in a variety of settings through UQ’s First Year Observership.
