It’s a celebration of junior doctors, medical training and research at The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) Toowoomba.

Last week, The UQRCS Research team and The University of Queensland Regional Training Hub (UQRTH) Southern Queensland proudly hosted more than 70 local medical students, junior doctors, and consultants at their welcome reception.

UQRCS Research Director Associate Professor Srinivas Kondalsamy Chennakesavan said the annual event provided the platform to explore potential rural health research ideas.

“We have a highly skilled research group here in Toowoomba who are passionate about the health and wellbeing of regional, rural and remote Australians including Indigenous Australians,” Dr Kondalsamy Chennakesavan said.

“It’s always in our best interests to bring major stakeholders together and provide them with a platform to showcase their research capabilities and share their expertise on medical research in the region with each other,” he said.

UQRTH Southern Queensland Director Associate Professor Thomas Doolan said the event gave local medics the opportunity to learn about initiatives available to them, including the mentorship program.

“Our team improves the coordination of medical training and ensures medical trainees can complete as much of their specialty training as possible in our region,” Dr Doolan said.

“We were proud to announce that we’ll be running the Zoom Educational Series again this year, which is an interactive case-based discussion forum with expert panels focussed on discussing common issues faced in isolated rural and remote environments,” he said.
