Community engagement
UQRCS believes that genuine community engagement and positive relationships are the key to successful program delivery. There is active engagement with civic leaders, local communities, educational organisations and the health system through our Community Advisory Committees at each site. These committees provide structure and mechanisms for discussion and communication.
The beautiful Yallakool Park on the Bjelke-Peterson Dam becomes our base camp. It is a great weekend spent supporting important local events and activities, which are organised to coincide with The Ration Shed Reconciliation Fun Run each year.
The Ration Shed Reconciliation Fun Run attracts over 500 participants. Some of our staff and students participate in The Run while others volunteer to support health checks at the water stations staged along the route. The completion of The Run usually culminates in an amazing festival full of cultural richness with plenty of dancing, singing and proud words of Reconciliation.
