To become a Psychiatrist, you will need to apply for fellowship with The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Fellowship is a 5-year (full time) training pathway consisting of three stages:
Stage 1: 12 months Adult Psychiatry (includes 6 months in an acute setting).
Stage 2: 24 months proficient level rotations (includes mandatory 6 months Child and Adolescent Psychiatry rotation, mandatory 6 months Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry rotation, and 12 months of elective rotations).
Stage 3: 24 months advanced level rotations (Trainees select 4 x 6 month elective rotations in a single or multiple areas).
A Certificate of Advanced Training (24 months) can be commenced concurrently in Stage 3.
