To become a Specialist Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, you will need to apply for fellowship with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.  Fellowship is a 6-year (full time equivalent) training pathway consisting of a Basic Training Program (4 years full time equivalent) and Advanced Training Program (2 years full time equivalent). 

Year 1-4

Basic Training Program (CTP) - Trainees must:

  • Rotate to a minimum of 2 hospitals
  • Complete a minimum of 23 weeks in a rural hospital
  • Complete a minimum of 46 weeks in a tertiary hospital
  • Complete 46 weeks away from base hospital

Year 5-6

Advanced Training Program (ATP) – Trainees must:

  • Submit a Learning Plan for approval each year which is designed to meet their own interests and educational needs
  • Complete Advanced Training Modules and focus on extending expertise in obstetric and/or gynaecology, develop research experience, develop experience in special interest
