To become a Specialist Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, you will need to apply for fellowship with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZOG).  Fellowship is a 6-year (full time equivalent) training pathway consisting of a Core Training Program (4 years FTE) and Advanced Training Program (2 years FTE).  

Year 1
Core Training Program (CTP) - Trainees must: 
  • Rotate to a minimum of 2 hospitals
  • Complete a minimum of 23 weeks in a rural hospital
  • Complete a minimum of 46 weeks in a tertiary hospital
  • Complete 46 weeks away from base hospital

Advanced Training Program (ATP) – Trainees must:
  • Submit a Learning Plan for approval each year which is designed to meet their own interests and educational needs.
  • Complete Advanced Training Modules in Generalist Obstetrics (6 months) and Generalist Gynaecology (6 months) OR for trainees who undertake subspecialty or academic streams, the Essential O&G Skills Advanced Training Module (12 months). This can be completed any time during advanced training.
