Building a rural and remote health workforce with place-based education

21 Aug 2023

UQ’s Associate Professor Matthew McGrail, Head of Regional Training Hub Research with the Rural Clinical School was approached alongside fellow researchers linked to the Federation of Rural Australian Medical Educators to contribute to a Medical Journal of Australia supplement, focussed on the rural and remote health workforce. This contribution critically reviews how Australia’s medical schools can better prepare and support more graduates choosing to work in rural areas.

Released this month, the supplement brings together lessons from the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training  program, reflections on training pathways back to Country, an international perspective on producing a fit‐for‐purpose rural and remote health workforce, and case studies of the impact on individual careers of RHMT investment.
