Wide Bay

Home to one of the most beautiful regions in Queensland with diverse lifestyle options, access to gourmet food and produce, stunning environments and flourishing industries. The Wide Bay Regional Training Hub (WBRTH) is bordered by the Southern Queensland Regional Training Hub to the south and west, and Central Queensland Regional Training Hub to the north. The WBRTH sits within the Bundaberg and Hervey Bay RCS and is led by Senior Academic Clinician Associate Professor Steven Flecknoe-Brown.

Key initiatives

Junior Doctor Mentor Program

The Junior Doctor Mentor Program will be launched in August this year.  The program addresses the needs of junior doctors who are new to rural practice, facilitates social support, and links them to the communities in which they reside. The program will be established in Hervey Bay first, with plans to replicate the program in Bundaberg later in the year.

Junior Doctor Education Opportunities

As well as supervision training, the Hub is mapping existing training and education opportunities available to junior doctors within the region and working to provide additional local education opportunities as required, allowing rural and regional doctors access to the same opportunities as their metropolitan counterparts.
